View profileAddiction counselling helps when alcohol, drugs, medication or a behaviour such as gambling, gaming or pornography has become difficult to control. You do not need to call yourself an addict or wait for a crisis to ask for help.
Sessions explore what the substance or behaviour does for you, what it costs you and which goals feel realistic, from reducing harm to stopping. Counsellors often use motivational interviewing and CBT, and can help you find medical support when withdrawal needs supervision.

Berlin’s start-up, research and creative scenes attract people from all over the world, and many of them prefer addiction counselling with a professional who understands life abroad. Sessions explore what the substance or behaviour does for you, the risks involved and realistic goals, from reducing harm to stopping.
You can look for a therapist who works in English, German, Russian or Ukrainian; each profile lists the languages spoken. Private health insurance and some expat policies reimburse part of private sessions, depending on the therapist’s qualification, so it is worth checking your contract before you start. On each profile you can check the approach, the languages, the session format and the fee before you book.

No. You can ask for help because you are worried about your alcohol or drug use, gambling, gaming or another behaviour. An assessment can clarify the level of risk and the most appropriate form of support.
Your goals should be discussed with you, but safety comes first. If physical dependence is possible, do not stop alcohol or a dependence-forming medicine abruptly without medical advice. For other drugs, ask a medical or specialist addiction service about the safest plan. A qualified professional may recommend medical assessment or specialist withdrawal support before psychological work continues.
Therapy can help identify triggers, warning signs and high-risk situations, strengthen coping strategies and create a response plan for lapses. It cannot guarantee that relapse will not occur, and some people also need medical, specialist or peer support.
Some psychological support can be provided online when this is clinically appropriate and permitted where both the client and professional are located. Online therapy is not suitable for a medical emergency, severe withdrawal, acute intoxication or every high-risk situation.
Yes. Partners and family members can seek support for their own stress, safety, communication and boundaries even if the other person is not ready to change.
Both are possible, depending on the therapist. Some therapists on My International Therapy receive clients in person in Berlin, others work online by secure video, and many offer both. Each profile shows the formats offered. Online sessions are also a way to keep the same therapist if you move or travel.
Yes. Many therapists in the network work in English, and others in German, Russian, Ukrainian and further languages. You can browse English-speaking, German-speaking, Russian-speaking and Ukrainian-speaking therapists in Berlin, and every profile lists the languages spoken.
Statutory health insurance (gesetzliche Krankenversicherung) covers psychotherapy with licensed psychotherapists who have a contract with the insurance funds, but waiting times of several months are common. Many international residents therefore start with a private therapist and pay directly. Private health insurance and some supplementary or expat policies reimburse part of the sessions, depending on the therapist’s qualification: check your contract. Therapists provide invoices you can submit to your insurer.
Each therapist sets their own fee, which is shown on their profile. As a guide, most individual approaches on this site are listed between €80 and €180 per session, couples and family therapy between €120 and €220, and coaching, career counselling or parenting support between €70 and €130. Sessions usually last 50 to 60 minutes.
Therapy is not an emergency service. If you or someone close to you is in danger, call 112. The Telefonseelsorge offers free, anonymous support 24/7 on 0800 111 0 111 or 0800 111 0 222.
The relationship with your therapist matters as much as the method. Compare profiles for the approach used, the topics they work with, the languages, the format and the fee. If you are unsure where to start, describe what you are going through and we will suggest therapists who suit your needs. The first session is also a chance to see whether the fit feels right.
