Find a verified and trustworthy therapist, matching your needs

Barcelona can feel vibrant and full of possibility—sun, sea, creativity, and community. At the same time, relocating or building a life here can bring stress, loneliness, and pressure to “make it work”. Therapy can help you feel grounded and supported.

Common reasons to start therapy in Barcelona

Therapy for expats and international residents in Barcelona

Barcelona has become a home for people from all over the world: tech and creative professionals, digital nomads, students, families and couples where one partner is Catalan or Spanish. The sun, the sea and the energy of the city are real, but so are the challenges: a housing market under pressure, two local languages, bureaucracy, a social life organised around long-standing friend groups, and the feeling of being “always temporary”. Many international residents come to therapy for anxiety, loneliness, burnout, relationship questions or the decision to stay or leave. A therapist who speaks your language and knows the realities of life abroad can help you build a life here that feels grounded.

How mental health care works in Spain

In Spain, the public health system covers psychiatric and psychological care through a referral from your family doctor (médico de cabecera), but waiting lists for psychology are often long. Most international residents therefore choose a private psychologist. In Spain, psychologists who provide clinical care hold the title of general health psychologist (psicólogo general sanitario) or clinical psychologist. Private health insurances and international expat policies sometimes cover part of the sessions: check your contract. Our therapists provide invoices you can submit to your insurer.

Choosing a therapist who fits you

The relationship with your therapist matters as much as the method. On each profile you can check the languages spoken, the approaches used (for example CBT, EMDR, ACT or psychodynamic therapy), the topics they work with, the session format and the fee. If you are not sure where to start, describe what you are going through and we will suggest therapists who match your needs.

  • Sessions usually last 50 to 60 minutes, weekly or every two weeks
  • In person in Barcelona or online by secure video, wherever you live
  • Couples, family and individual therapy, as well as workshops and groups

If you need urgent help in Barcelona

Therapy is not an emergency service. If you or someone close to you is in danger, call 112. For suicidal thoughts, Spain’s national line 024 is free, confidential and available 24/7.

How it works

  1. Share your needs and preferences.
  2. We match you with a therapist who fits.
  3. Start sessions online or in person.
