Somatic Therapy: working with the nervous system
Somatic approaches recognise that stress and trauma are not only “in the mind” — they also live in the body through tension, startle responses, shutdown, or chronic activation. Somatic therapy helps you track bodily signals, build regulation skills, and process experiences in a grounded way.
What you may work on
- Persistent stress and hyper‑alertness
- Trauma responses and body memories
- Sleep problems linked to nervous system activation
- Chronic tension and pain patterns (in coordination with medical care)
What sessions can include
Depending on the therapist, sessions may include body awareness, breathing, grounding exercises, titration (small steps), and gentle exploration of triggers. The goal is to increase capacity and safety — not to force reliving experiences.
