How does a coaching session work?
First Session:
During the first session, the coach and you take the time to get to know each other, discuss the overall objectives of your coaching, the themes to be addressed to achieve these objectives, the ethical framework (confidentiality, duration of the coaching, session frequency), and mutual expectations.
Following Sessions:
Each coaching session adapts to your needs but is built around these key phases: setting the stage, defining the session’s goal, exploring and working on the topic, creating an action plan, and closing the session. This structure maximizes the effectiveness of the sessions by providing a structured, dynamic, and results-oriented approach.
1. Setting the Stage
The coach takes the time to welcome you and make you feel comfortable. She then asks a few questions about recent events or your state of mind to assess your emotional state and prepare to address the session appropriately.
2. Defining the Session’s Goal
The coach helps you clarify the specific goal of the session, aligned with the overall coaching goal. This allows you to focus on a concrete and measurable aspect, making it easier to track progress.
3. Exploration and Working on the Topic
The coach uses questioning techniques, active listening, and sometimes specific tools to help you explore your thoughts, emotions, beliefs, and behaviors related to the defined goal. The purpose of this step is to help you gain awareness of your blocks, resources, and possible courses of action and solutions.
4. Creating an Action Plan
Once you have gained clarity about your goal and the factors at play, the coach helps you define concrete actions you can take to make progress. Together, you establish a realistic action plan adapted to your needs and abilities. This step transforms insights into tangible actions and strengthens your commitment.
5. Closing the Session
At the end of the session, the coach and you review the progress made and the lessons learned, as well as your state of mind. Together, you recap the agreed actions and ensure you feel ready to implement them.
